One of the best things about living in an expat-heavy country? Multiple excuses to celebrate the people we love! While the official UAE Mother’s Day falls on Saturday March 21st, UK Mother’s Day is coming up fast (Sunday March 15th), so we've rounded up some of our favourite spots for a lovely meal out with mum!
Save this for later too - you get a second go around on Sunday, May 10th this year, as our US, Indian, Aussie, NZ, South African and Filipino friends celebrate the occasion then! Make sure you spoil your mum - or send this list to someone so they can treat you to a lovely Mother’s Day breakfast (or lunch!) this month!
Seed & Bloom
Al Raha Gardens
This lovely community cafe in Al Raha is such a treasure - if you haven’t been already, Mother’s Day is the perfect excuse to pop in. Along with really lovely staff, you’ll find a relaxing, mindfully created cafe space along with plenty of your favourite dishes to choose from. The breakfast offering is solid, and we rate their drinks and desserts too - the sticky toffee pudding is a worthy extravagance. Keep an eye out for specials, as seasonal drinks and extras are often on offer - it’s one you’ll find yourself popping back to again and again!

Flaky Pastry
The Galleria
A homegrown UAE gourmet croissanterie, Flaky Pastry got its start in Dubai - but we were so excited to see them open their doors in The Galleria last year, and we’ve already been for many visits - see what we thought here! They dish up light and crispy pastry goodness alongside specialty coffee and tasty breakfast options.
Tuck into a selection of sweet and savoury croissants - freshly baked and playing with some unique flavour pairings - and treat mum to a spot of shopping afterward. Perfect for mums who want to treat themselves in more ways than one - you can impress her with a light snack or something more substantial - between hitting the shops - it's hard work afterall!

Knead Bakery & Patisserie
Al Nahyan
As well as some of the best patisserie and sourdough in Abu Dhabi - all baked fresh daily - mum will love a breakfast trip to Knead for their breakfast! The menu is stacked with breakfast favourites, everything from shakshouka, avo toast and eggs Bene to a full English, healthy bowls, crepes and French toast. Grab a seat outside while the weather is still decent - the shade and greenery really helps! - and be sure to grab some delicious pastries - take them home to enjoy later if you’re stuffed, along with a loaf of fresh sourdough. Oh, and for the little kids, they’ve got a kids menu - winning!

EL&N
Marina Mall, Reem Mall & Yas Bay Waterfront
A sparkling pink vision on Yas Bay Waterfront, the OG EL&N outlet in Abu Dhabi has been a favourite for a while. This month we’re thrilled to see two more EL&N spots join the ranks: EL&N Marina Mall and EL&N Deli & Bakery in Reem Mall. Each has a distinct style, but the great service and impeccable cakes you know and love are here to stay! They aren’t just about the cake though - their savoury menus take EL&N from a gorgeous sweet spot to a breakfast and lunch location you’ll find yourself returning to again and again.
The Yas Bay waterfront location is what Instagrammable dreams are made of! Don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s all show and no go - the food is excellent and their cafe display has the power to tempt even the most stuffed diners at the end of a visit!
Whether you’re a sweet or a savoury breakfaster, each EL&N cafe provides the goods: we loved all the egg dishes we tried and the mini pancakes, served in a bowl looking for all the world like Froot Loops with real fruit were a hit with the kids … ok, and the adults! There’s an amazing range of coffees, teas and other yummy concoctions, perfect for a Mother’s Day treat.

Tashas
Al Bateen
We love an all day breakfast menu, and Tashas are serving up breakfast favourites until 6PM daily - so you can treat mum to a sleep in AND breakfast! The picture perfect Al Bateen backdrop is also ideal for a wander post-breakfast, and the hustle and bustle of the sunny Marina brings a relaxed holiday vibe.
No matter how you like your eggs, you’ll find your favourite here, and there are no shortage of alternatives too: think crispy rostis, French toast, their super fresh berry banana split breakfast, sandwiches and quesadillas galore. The interiors wouldn’t be out of place in a lifestyle magazine, with lush plants and stylish touches that strike the right balance of elegant but approachable. Push the boat out and finish with a baked treat from the cloched display on the counter - mum’s choice, of course!

Some of the best food on Reem can be found at Cafe James, making it the perfect choice for Mother’s Day: smashing breakfasts (try the shakshouka or go all out with a great French toast), excellent mains with some French influences, buttery croissants, decadent desserts and even some good scones (high praise in Abu Dhabi, the home of sad scones), James hits the mark every time. Caffeine addicts, you’ll find your fix here - the specialty coffee menu hosts a range of different origin beans, every kind of milk and anything from an iced Spanish to nitro.
After becoming a favourite on Reem, a second James is now open in Al Qana, so you can find your favourites over that side of town as well - followed by a lovely walk with Mum along the waterfront!

At Cyan, it’s a great time to be a morning person, and if Mum is an early riser she’ll really love this one - a great buffet breakfast with an even better location, no one will be leaving hungry! It’s overflowing with the whole family’s favourites: freshly baked pastries, seasonal fruit, nourishing granola and of course bespoke orders from waffles, French toast and pancakes to eggs Benedict (or your other eggy heroes) made fresh to order - just for you. Cured meats, smoked salmon and gourmet cheeses will tickle lovers of a more European-style breakfast, while our vegetarian and vegan friends are well looked after - options are also available to suit every preference.

Hy Bakery
The Galleria
Another option in The Galleria for mums on the go, this fresh cafe and bakery really flies under the radar! Located in the food court - they’re hard to miss once you know what you’re looking for, the pink and green furnishings are very cute - you’ll find a menu full of delicious (and well-priced!) dishes. Specialising in matcha, you can get your fix here with a stack of hot, iced and flavoured matcha concoctions - but don’t be put off if you aren’t a matcha fan! We regularly stop in for anything from a great avocado toast to sweet treats - including their spin on the Matilda cake. The staff are so nice, and it makes for a little oasis amongst the hustle and bustle of the food court.

Amara
The WB | Yas Island
If you’re after a big, sharing-style breakfast that lands on the table with some wow-factor, Amara is the spot for you this Mother’s Day. Calling this a breakfast tray feels like an injustice - it’s massive, and it’ll keep you going right through lunch as well! Dishing up excellent Lebanese food on Yas Island, Amara is tucked away on the back terrace of The WB Hotel - but the inside is big, bright and airy, making it a perfect destination for the hotter months!
We shared this epic tower of food between 4 and didn’t manage to finish - although we made a respectable dent. The table next to us shared it between two, and all we could think was ‘good luck to them!’. Tuck into a selection of fresh breads, cold & hot mezze including manakish, hummus Beiruty, moutabel, labneh with makdous, a cheese & jam selection, falafel, eggplant fatteh, foul, eggs of your choice along with their signature halloumi or zaatar manakeesh. Phew! Wash the lot down with your choice of hot beverage or fresh juice for just AED290. We went for the shakshouka as our egg dish - it was lovely - and the eggplant fatteh, foul and moutabel were all perfectly flavoured and had us dipping between the three with warm bread.
As well as amazing value, it’s the perfect long breakfast to linger over - just what you want for a morning with the family (they even have a playroom for the kids).

Sarabeth's Bakery and New York Restaurant
Hidd Al Saadiyat
Check out all the details of this fabulous cafe all the way from New York here - it's right on the beach! Tucked a way a little at Hidd Al Saadiyat, this seaside esplanade is home to a growing list of cafes and restaurants that are definitely worth the drive if you're not a local. We loved the 'popover' with scrambled egg - essential a giant Yorkshire pudding - and the waffles are good too. Well behaved dogs can sit with you outside, another reason to love this one if your fluffy children are celebrating Mother's Day with you as well!
