One of the best things about living in an expat-heavy country? Multiple excuses to celebrate the people we love! While the official UAE Mother’s Day falls on Saturday March 21st, UK Mother’s Day is coming up fast (Sunday March 15th), so we've rounded up some of our favourite spots for a lovely meal out with mum!
Save this for later too - you get a second go around on Sunday, May 10th this year, as our US, Indian, Aussie, NZ, South African and Filipino friends celebrate the occasion then! Make sure you spoil your mum - or send this list to someone so they can treat you to a lovely Mother’s Day breakfast (or lunch!) this month!
Flaky Pastry
The Galleria
A homegrown UAE gourmet croissanterie, Flaky Pastry got its start in Dubai - but we were so excited to see them open their doors in The Galleria last year, and we’ve already been for many visits - see what we thought here! They dish up light and crispy pastry goodness alongside specialty coffee and tasty breakfast options.
Tuck into a selection of sweet and savoury croissants - freshly baked and playing with some unique flavour pairings - and treat mum to a spot of shopping afterward. Perfect for mums who want to treat themselves in more ways than one - you can impress her with a light snack or something more substantial - between hitting the shops - it's hard work afterall!

EL&N
Marina Mall, Reem Mall & Yas Bay Waterfront
A sparkling pink vision on Yas Bay Waterfront, the OG EL&N outlet in Abu Dhabi has been a favourite for a while. This month we’re thrilled to see two more EL&N spots join the ranks: EL&N Marina Mall and EL&N Deli & Bakery in Reem Mall. Each has a distinct style, but the great service and impeccable cakes you know and love are here to stay! They aren’t just about the cake though - their savoury menus take EL&N from a gorgeous sweet spot to a breakfast and lunch location you’ll find yourself returning to again and again.
The Yas Bay waterfront location is what Instagrammable dreams are made of! Don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s all show and no go - the food is excellent and their cafe display has the power to tempt even the most stuffed diners at the end of a visit!
Whether you’re a sweet or a savoury breakfaster, each EL&N cafe provides the goods: we loved all the egg dishes we tried and the mini pancakes, served in a bowl looking for all the world like Froot Loops with real fruit were a hit with the kids … ok, and the adults! There’s an amazing range of coffees, teas and other yummy concoctions, perfect for a Mother’s Day treat.

Tashas
Al Bateen
We love an all day breakfast menu, and Tashas are serving up breakfast favourites until 6PM daily - so you can treat mum to a sleep in AND breakfast! The picture perfect Al Bateen backdrop is also ideal for a wander post-breakfast, and the hustle and bustle of the sunny Marina brings a relaxed holiday vibe.
No matter how you like your eggs, you’ll find your favourite here, and there are no shortage of alternatives too: think crispy rostis, French toast, their super fresh berry banana split breakfast, sandwiches and quesadillas galore. The interiors wouldn’t be out of place in a lifestyle magazine, with lush plants and stylish touches that strike the right balance of elegant but approachable. Push the boat out and finish with a baked treat from the cloched display on the counter - mum’s choice, of course!

Antonia Trattoria
Al Zeina
Head to Antonia Trattoria in Al Zeina for your weekend fix of the best Italian breakfast items in Abu Dhabi. We loved the cornetti, croissants filled with patisserie cream, pistachio or Nutella, the massive plump bombas and the ciambella, perfect for someone who wants a sweet fix without any filling.
The egg dishes are also incredible and you can wash all this down with a big pot of Moka or a lovely, creamy cappuccino. This is the ultimate mum spoil!

Dishing up all your brunch, lunch and dinner favourites - from the Miss Jones signature beef burger to fancy salads, sandwiches and pastas - it’s the perfect way to treat your mum AND yourself!
It’s a great spot to linger over coffee while you catch up with your mates, so get a gaggle of your mum friends together - the more the merrier!

Jumeirah At Saadiyat Island Resort
If you’re keen to make your Mother’s Day breakfast fill you up until dinner, head to White at Jumeirah Saadiyat. With its glorious beachy location and pristine decor, this is a cut above the usual hotel breakfast, serving hot-off-the-press pancakes and waffles as well as Russian pancakes and a ton of great savoury dishes. We love the eggs Bene made to order and the good coffee that comes with it.
