There's nothing quite like the footprint left from large-scale events like Taste of Abu Dhabi, and from restaurants in general. You can imagine the hundreds of tonnes of waste generated, that ends up solely in a landfill - given that it's 2025, we need to see more initiatives that work towards reducing food waste.
Enter, ne'ma!
Last year, ne',ma, under the leadership of Khuloud Hasan Al Nuwais, Chief Sustainability Officerof Emirates Foundation and ne'ma Steering Committee Secretary-General, ne'ma produced the UAE Zero Waste Events Guide for events of this size, helping them to reduce their environmental impact.
HOW WILL IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
By returning to the increasingly popular Taste of Abu Dhabi for a second year, ne’ma continues to be the guiding light in promoting zero food waste.
Its impact in 2024 was staggering:
- it helped divert 310kg of food waste from landfill
- prevented 787 kg of CO₂e
- and produced 62 kg of compost.

WHY TASTE OF ABU DHABI
Victoria Burn, Event Director, Taste of Abu Dhabi said, “We’re proud to welcome ne’ma back as our Food Waste Reduction Partner.
Taste events are about exceptional experiences, and that includes doing things responsibly.
With ne’ma’s guidance, we’re raising the bar on how major festivals operate: better sorting, smarter menus, food rescue, and transparent reporting.
It’s good for our guests, good for our partners, and good for Abu Dhabi"
We applaud Taste of Abu Dhabi for supporting the global push towards zero food waste - it's fitting that Abu Dhabi's best food festival is the most forward thinking!

HOW CAN YOU HELP SUPPORT THE NE'MA ZERO FOOD WASTE INITIATIVE?
Be intentional:
- Scrape your food waste into the RED bins dotted around the event
- Put your plates and cutlery into the other bins
- Only order as much as you need

WHERE WILL THE FOOD WASTE GO?
As the national custodian for combating food loss andwaste, ne’ma is partnering with UAE-based start-up, ReLoop by Ecyclex to compost food waste and organic materials generated at the event. This nutrient-rich compost will support local farms and divert food waste from landfill
All that's left is for each of us to assume responsibility and 'do our bit'
Find the red bin, scrape your waste and only order what you need - and support ne'ma in the Zero Food Waste initiative.
