Hot off the foodie press, Dubai institution 3Fils has arrived in Abu Dhabi, and we couldn’t wait to roll out the red carpet to welcome them to town! We enjoyed a taste of their signature flair and innovative flavours with SLRP by 3Fils springing up in Yas Mall, but now the full experience is here - finding a new home at The Edition Abu Dhabi.

Yes - UAE residents love to embrace any and all international restaurants that find a home on our shores, but there’s something about a homegrown success story that really tickles our fancy - and 3Fils is no exception. Their signature Japanese offering has won fans in droves, and we know how eager the Abu Dhabi food scene has been for this one to open up. Melt-in-the-mouth sushi, succulent seafood and all-Wagyu everything - let’s go.

In 2023 named among the top 6 entries in the World’s 50 Best MENA list, 3Fils has gone from strength to strength, nabbing a MICHELIN Guide Bib Gourmand award as well. Naturally, we couldn’t wait to see what treats were in store for their new home in Al Bateen - so here are 10 things you need to know before your first visit!

Walk-ins only: no reservations!

Just like the Dubai restaurant, you can’t book - just turn up! Doors open at 6PM and by 6.30PM on a Wednesday, every table was taken. Don’t worry - if you’re heading in for a later dinner, the staff will grab your name and number and tables turn over pretty fast. It’s worth the wait.

The food is seriously good

No surprises here - but the food stacks up! We loved everything we tried - from the instagrammable Fremantle Octopus to the cheap and cheerful Indomie, Yes Indomie - everything tasted even better than we expected. The Dragon sushi was polished off super fast, and try Charcoal if you want something that’s a little bit out there - the bright orange sauce poured over the shiny black ‘charcoal’ definitely adds some colour to your dinner.

Views, views, views

It’s no secret Al Bateen is one of the prettiest spots in the city, nestled by the marina with the iconic Abu Dhabi skyline in the distance. 3Fils has a fab spot right by The Edition’s main hotel building, but the freestanding restaurant makes for some very photo-worthy moments, especially at sunset: the whole building is bathed in golden light and makes turning up in time for opening well worth it!

No alcohol

But don’t worry - you can grab some tasty mocktails and even non-alcoholic beer. The mocktails are creative: the tiki-style Uncle was refreshing and topped with raspberry candies, while the Zaatar W Shay was unlike any other mocktail we’re tried. The blend of Earl Grey with zaatar, guava and thyme was really interesting - not overly sweet, but very tasty.

The staff know their stuff

Not sure what to order? Don’t worry - the staff are all over the menu and are super friendly to boot. The busy chefs are hard at work in the open kitchen, and the flashes of flames added some fun to the bustling space. We had such a positive experience, and they handled the queue of eager patrons very well - kudos to management for getting this right!

Don’t skip dessert

We made sure to save a tiny bit of room for dessert - and you’ll want to, too. The Karak Ice Cream is a full on production - watching the ice cream man (probably not his actual job title) work his way around the room, we felt a little jealous and added this to our order. It’s delicious - the karak flavours really sing, complemented by the light foam and the perfect crunch of the smashed cone - and at AED48, it was a perfect dessert to share between two.

Let’s talk prices!

You can spend as much or little as you like. The cheapest dish we ordered was just AED30 (the simple yet fiery Indomie, Yes Indomie), burgers come in around AED77 and the premium Wagyu Sando will set you back a sizable AED385 (but it is premium A5 Wagyu tenderloin). Mocktails start at AED24. We spent around AED300 between two people - including mocktails and dessert - and definitely didn’t leave hungry!

Parking

Brought to Abu Dhabi in partnership with The Edition, you can leave your car with The Edition’s valet service, or if you prefer there’s a parking garage a stone's throw away (we’ve parked here plenty of times when visiting Osk and ZOE Greek Kuzina). Come by taxi if you don’t want to deal with parking - it’s easy to pick one up for the return trip out the front of The Edition after dinner.

You’ll find your favourites on the menu

Hoping to score your favourite 3Fils seaweed salad or truffle burger without the drive to Dubai to scratch the itch? 3Fils Abu Dhabi has your favourites waiting for you in Al Bateen - and with the dirhams you save on petrol, you can splash out and try a few new dishes as well.

It’s worth the hype

It’s not just another Dubai ‘cut and paste’ to Abu Dhabi. From the gorgeous space, the marina backdrop and the switched on staff, to the star of the show - the food - everything has been really well executed. It’s fun, it’s laidback and it’s really delicious: 3Fils is a very welcome addition to the Abu Dhabi dining scene, and one we know you’ll find yourself visiting time and time again. See you there!
