Branching out on this visit, we tried the polpo arrosto to start - roasted octopus and confit tomato finished with oregano and olive oil - which transported us straight to the south of Italy. Bite-sized pieces of octopus were perfectly cooked and polished off unsurprisingly quickly!

It’s always hard to go past Nonna's ‘tonnarelli cacio e pepe’ al tavolo. Finished tableside in the Pecorino cheese wheel - imported from Rome, of course - its simplicity is surpassed only by how delicious it is, every single time. A little pizzazz from the tableside presentation is the cherry (or should we say, cracked pepper?) on top. And no matter how ‘good’ we’re trying to be, finishing with tiramisu is a must - Antonia’s is regularly argued to be one of the best in the city and it’s such a treat: creamy with just the right hit of coffee.

Yes, Antonia Ansam has a liquor license, so you can enjoy all your favourite beverages with your lunch or dinner - or drop in for that sunset aperitivo. An ice cold Aperol spritz always hits the spot - and who better to make it perfectly than the Italians themselves? - or pair your dinner with a nice drop of wine or frosted beer instead.

True Antonia style in the heart of Yas Island - from the red, black and green pops of colour to the handpainted signature Antonia plates - make this a go-to for Italian food lovers and Antonia’s loyal fans who don’t want to make the trip to Mamsha Al Saadiyat or Al Zeina. As well as a lovely terrace for when the weather is playing nice, there’s plenty of room inside - where the brilliant staff will take very good care of you. Grab some pizza to take home, or a cup of gelato to stave off the heat on the way out the door - there’s no such thing as too much Antonia!
