La Vie en Rose Sunday brunch La Petite Maison Abu Dhabi

IN BRIEF

If you're looking for a Sunday brunch with an element of class, La Vie en Rose is the one for you.

Dish after dish of great Mediterranean food is served to your table with efficiency and a bit of a flourish, drinks are poured, tipples discussed and as the dining room fills, you almost feel transported to somewhere decidedly celebratory of la belle vie!

ABOUT THE FOOD

La Petite Maison takes the word brunch almost literally, so the menu includes stand-out dishes like the exceptionally flavourful scallop crudo and assorted tartines (oh my, the croque madame with a petit quail's egg!), but also pastries and decidedly good truffled eggs. Would it even be brunch without the exceptional escargots, the snails sitting in their shells encased in a gorgeous garlic herb mix, with parmesan and lashings of melted butter, tipping easily out onto the freshly made baguette.

Leave your seat to browse the display of mains on the pass ... we settled on the veal short-rib and the slow-cooked lamb shoulder which tender and delicious, especially when plated and served with a great ratatouille.

Finish in style with desserts that rival the best in the city. Alas, no cheesecake which I could eat every day and never get sick of it, but the chocolate tart is swoon-worthy.

ABOUT THE DRINKS

The wine list is broad and interesting and better than that, the sommeliers are so skilled they can recommend, talk you through the options and help you decide.

Cocktails and mocktails arrive quickly - we enjoy the Riviera tropicana, an Aperol based spritz but with a fabulous step up with campari and good wine. It's a bit bitter (in a good way) and a bit sweet and leaves you feeling crisp and ready for more. The Sgroppino is a lemon-forward prosecco/vodka mix - order it at the beginning of the starters because it's a great match-up with the burrata on the tartines and the seafood.

Mocktails are also high end. We struggle to leave the limonade noire behind but also love the not-sweet, refreshing passionfruit mojito.

WHY YOU'D CHOOSE IT

The LPM Sunday brunch is the best in Abu Dhabi. It's one of the few brunches that doesn't rely on entertainment to make it amazing: the food, the drinks and the bustling vibes make it everything you need.

There are couples on date-brunch, groups of thirty-somethings celebrating a birthday, women having gossipy catch-ups and families with well behaved children who like food. Side note, there is actually a small, supervised table for younger children to do colouring and craft.

OF NOTE

In the winter, the terrace is a gorgeous place to sit, but for now, it being June, you'd be content sitting inside, doing a surreptitious spot of people watching, enjoying the bonhomie of the staff and enjoying the superb food offering that never waivers in consistency.
