BEST FOR: an upscale Sunday brunch

Sunday brunch has landed at Catch, and it's going to be one to make everyone's lists! Umi Social Brunch kicks off with a welcome cocktail and an oyster trolley, then it's over to the sushi bar for extremely high end crispy rice spicy salmon, tuna sashimi and four kinds of maki. There's crab salad, salmon tartare, seabass ceviche and beef tataki with black garlic, plus yakitori, fried calamari, mushroom gyoza and char-grilled edamame for sharing.

For your main, it's a seafood platter brought to the table, loaded with tiger prawns, grilled salmon, baby calamari, scallops, baby octopus and clams, or a skillet of wagyu ribeye with roast potatoes and grilled corn. Desserts include the silky coconut sago, orange cheesecake and a chocolate ganache tart.

DJ Afro Vide keeps things buzzing all afternoon, and there's a calligraphy artist who'll make you a personalised keepsake to take home. With the sea right there, this is one to send to your brunchy group chat!

Catch by the Tide

BEST FOR: a proposal, anniversary or serious romance points!

If you're planning a proposal or a big anniversary, this is the place to do it. Catch by the Tide is a private dinner for two by the sea. It starts with welcome drinks and jumbo crab, then braised short ribs, a lemon and mint sorbet to reset your taste buds, and mains like wagyu ribeye and miso cod marinated for 48 hours. Dessert is Catchamisu, Catch's own take on tiramisu.

Classic Romance is five courses with soft drinks and butler-style service for AED2,500 per couple, and you can add champagne and premium spirits for AED1,100.

‍Luxury Indulgence goes all in at AED4,000: seven courses including black caviar and oysters, free-flow champagne and spirits, all in a private beachfront cabana.

BEST FOR: an Italian-style sharing feast

Villa Toscana's new sharing menu is all about the Italian family table: you pick five dishes and everyone digs in. Choices include marinated amberjack with wild fennel oil and a dashi emulsion in a very interesting Asian meets Italian fusion, wagyu tartare with truffle honey, Apulian burrata with Piennolo tomatoes and basil, and wagyu skewers glazed with pomegranate and rosemary, finished with Tuscan pecorino and chestnut honey.

Go for the AED395 option and you'll add crudo, Italy's take on raw seafood: Mazara red prawns from Sicily, tuna, amberjack, langoustine and baby oysters.

Sit out on the beautiful terrace and enjoy some of Abu Dhabi's most underrated views.

Villa Toscana's business lunch is one of the best-value lunch options in Abu Dhabi. October's menu has panzanella, burrata from Puglia and polpo alla Catalana, an octopus salad with tomato and onion. Crystal Lounge's afternoon tea is served under huge crystal chandeliers, looking out over the hotel's sweeping staircase, so yes, your camera roll will thank you. This is an afternoon tea with a great savoury side: there's smoked salmon on squid ink bread, cucumber and labneh with dill, and brie and roast beef on truffle brioche. Sweets include mango and berry pavlova, pistachio kunafa, crème brûlée, passion fruit macarons and a tiramisu tart, plus plain and date scones with Cornish clotted cream and jam.

Pinktober Afternoon Tea

From 19 October, afternoon tea goes pink. Savouries include pink roast sirloin of Scotch beef, tiger prawn with cocktail sauce, smoked salmon with citrus crème fraîche, and roasted beetroot with Connage - a soft, fresh Scottish cheese. The pink sweets are a lot of fun, from a pink lilac whoopie pie (superb!) and Campari and pink grapefruit jelly to rose and raspberry sponge and a pink praline tartlet. Scones come in cranberry and cherry, plain and chocolate, with Devonshire clotted cream and homemade rose petal jelly. This is a really fun thing to do, while supporting breast cancer research in the process.
