An indoor iftar that has the magic of outside, take a seat under Dusit Thani’s iconic Khaymat Skydome. With twinkling lights and towering palm trees reflected in the glass, this is an iftar that’s full of surprises.
Our highlights? Lovely ambiance, ostrich, TWO chocolate fountains, local produce section, fresh rotisserie chicken, live dessert stations, and dishes from Namak and Benjarong.

Excellent Meats
There’s no lack of protein at this iftar: the generous - and fall-off-the-bone tender - lamb ouzi had a station all to itself, and freshly cooked rotisserie chicken was extra succulent. Something we’ve never seen at an iftar before, there’s an ostrich station - that’s right, from the UAE’s very own sustainable ostrich farm. Our ostrich burgers were surprisingly flavourful and juicy, served in pita with garlic sauce, onion and tomato. The chef told us the next night it would be ostrich tacos - so keep an eye out when you visit.

Huge Dessert Selection - And Live Stations!
Not one, but TWO chocolate fountains as well as three live dessert stations make this one of the bigger dessert selections on the iftar circuit this season - and it’s super family friendly! Freshly cooked crepes - yum! - and piping hot individual kunafa hit the spot if you love a warm dessert, alongside plenty of Arabic sweets, a huge display of fresh fruit, cakes and individual sweets - the kunafa cheesecake was a hit, and a pistachio milk cake made the cut for seconds. Kids will love the dondurma - Turkish ice cream - and he was having a great time with the usual antics.

Great Range
One of the pleasures of iftar at Dusit Thani is that their Indian and Thai dishes are top notch, thanks to in-house restaurants Namak and Benjarong. Their vegetarian curry had a nice level of heat, and we skipped the lentil soup in favour of tom yum soup - also a winner. A central display heaving with sushi will tempt most diners - there’s vege sushi as well - and it’s beautifully arranged in sushi boats. Shawarma is fresh and not at all dry - another winner - and a generous mixed grill had a constant stream of diners at the ready. Mezze and salads are plentiful too, if you’re inclined for a lighter start!

Local Touches
As well as a gorgeous Bedouin tent willed with dates, nuts and dried fruit, the back wall had an organics and local produce section which was a lovely touch - and if you have visitors in town, a nice way to show what the UAE has to offer. Local honey, camel cheese, tomatoes, pickles and salads all prepared from UAE-sourced ingredients - with signs explaining each display.

Vibe
As you descend the escalator under the arching Khaymat Skydome, it’s hard not to be a little enchanted - it’s a lovely scene, with live qanun music as the soundtrack. Beautifully decorated, it’s large without feeling impersonal - perfect for bigger groups, families and friends - and with so much variety, plenty of excuses for a return visit.
