PHO7 FOR FUNKY VIETNAMESE IN ABU DHABI

Pho7 might be your new favourite casual Vietnamese! Whether you’re pulling up a seat in the spotless, well-priced restaurant or ordering delivery that will leave you hoping for unlikely leftovers, Pho7’s brimming bowls of deliciousness is well worth a try.

While the mains are easily filling enough, let yourself be tempted by the starters and smaller dishes. We started with fresh spring rolls (AED30), the prawns and noodles pleasantly contrasted against herbs and spring onion. Vietnamese Bánh Mì (AED30) is only as good as its crusty bun casing, and this one met our standards: enough sauce that the bun didn’t feel dry and the pulled chicken was tasty. Our standout starter had to be the beef skewers (AED30): tasty, tender beef that was perfect dipped in peanut sauce.

If you can pick a good Vietnamese restaurant by the depth of flavour in their pho broth, it’s clear Pho7 is a winner. We opted for the beef pho (AED40), fragrant and filling without feeling heavy. The stir-fried pineapple rice (AED50) is delivered steaming to the table in a hollowed out half pineapple, a quirky touch with a leg up on classic fried rice.

We loosened our belts and rallied for dessert – a face-off between crème caramel in coffee and ice(AED28) and agar agar (AED28) with its pandan flavour. Crème caramel emerged the winner: the soft caramel texture was a nice note to end on, the agar agar a little tough for our liking. Don’t miss the Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk too!

This is definitely a Vietnamese option we’ll return to – for both dine in and delivery. A great option on this side of town, the food was on point and the service rounded out the meal perfectly – it’s hard to believe they have only been open 3 months, as this well-oiled machine speaks to a much more established restaurant.
