FLAVOURS SATURDAY BRUNCH

SATURDAY BRUNCH AT FLAVOURS

Being one of the first hotels to be built in Abu Dhabi, this old girl certainly deserved a spruce up and having undergone extensive refurbishment, her doors are now reopened to the public. The hotel is now bright, fresh, and modern feeling with an almost art deco feel. The all-day dining restaurant, Flavours, has had its own upgrade and it’s now a lovely spot for a lazy Friday afternoon brunch.

The food: Perhaps not as extensive as some of Abu Dhabi’s other ‘mega’ brunches, the food is still well presented and tasty, offering varied world cuisines. There were two live cooking stations: live pasta and a saj station. The beef prime rib was tender, and the gravy was delicious. One of the standout items for me was the Arabic stuffed breads, these were doughy and hot from the kitchen. I tried one in every flavour The desert station had a good selection, and I particularly enjoyed the coconut and blueberry cake. And the fruit tarts were an ‘old skool’ gem.

The drinks: we were served the freshest OJ to start, and I continued with a Cosmo. The perfect accompaniment to our view of the palms and the swimming pool beyond. We gratefully received the coffee at the end of our meal, which seems to be a bit of an anomaly at the end of an Abu Dhabi Friday Brunch, but a staple in our household to finish a big meal with.

Flavours will be starting themed brunches in January, from Orthodox Christmas, Asian, Levant to Aussie – these should be bringing some interesting dishes!

This may not be the most elaborate brunch in Abu Dhabi but the service we received on Friday was excellent, the staff seemed proud to show off their new fancy digs, and the price point is unbeatable.
