DREAMY DESSERT INDULGENCE

We hold our hands up, we're on a permanent mission to find the best desserts in Abu Dhabi. Being a nation of sweet lovers, we really are spoilt for choice and this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to amazing dessert options.

As a side note, we've made an executive decision that dessert and cake are entirely different, so watch out for the cake edition, coming soon.

Meanwhile, forget the calories and get trying some of these magical treats.

BUTCHER & STILL

FOUR SEASONS ABU DHABI

Butcher & Still tops the list for places to get a great pie, cheesecake or tart. But what reigns supreme, is the iconic 34-storey chocolate cake, made to replicate the Tribune Tower built in 1925 Chicago at the height of prohibition.

With 34 layers of the lightest possible cake, interspersed with layers of smooth ganache, this is a cake that screams

Top tip: don't even try to scale the heights of this cake alone - it's built for sharing.

BENTLEY KITCHEN

THE GALLERIA AT AL MARYAH

The first time we had it, we thought, 'one day, we're just going to go in and order it for lunch and nothing else and just sit there and scoff the whole thing'! Yes, the lemon meringue pie at Bentley's is that good. It's absolute dessert magic and definitely one of the best desserts in Abu Dhabi.

It not only looks sublime with meringue shaped into hedgehog-like spikes, but it tastes divine. Sometimes, lemon meringue can be too sweet but the meringue is only very slightly sugared, providing the perfect foil for the sweet and tart lemon curd underneath.

Highly recommend!

LPM

THE GALLERIA AT AL MARYAH

So there are actually a couple of contenders at LPM: it's big on dessert. We think the cheesecake, with its insanely thin crust, smoother than smooth filling and the delicate little dusting of lime on the top is the best in Abu Dhabi.

But then there's the pain perdu. And to answer you sceptics, yes, French toast is totally a dessert! This one, with it's superbly crunchy top passed the spoon rap test and once dug into proves to be soft and smooth inside. Paired with a delicious spiced ice-cream, this is a dessert winner.

The dessert lover in me would say that it's the quality of the desserts that makes LPM one of Abu Dhabi's only must book restaurants!

LA MAISON GATEAU

NAHYAN CAMP, KHALIFA A

This is a dessert shop you can't go past. They do a range of great pull up cakes, but our favourite and most decadent thing to eat there is the profiteroles, slathered in pistachio and vanilla and filled with the most decadent custard. They come on a little grill with a flame underneath so that as you chat, the frosting melts and the profiteroles become sticky and gooey and just luscious. Give this a try!

ASADOR DE ARANDA

THE GALLERIA AT AL MARYAH

Asador de Aranda is almost a hidden gem amongst a slew of great restaurants that make up The Galleria, but dessert-wise, we're so happy we came across it.

Our favourite dessert is the el hojaldre de la casa, literally the house puff pastry. How does it go? Start with a layer of the lightest puff pastry followed by a thick layer of gorgeous yellow chantilly cream, a layer of fresh whipped cream and a hat of icing sugar dusted puff pastry. It is the most divine thing ever and almost looks too good to eat. But eat you must, because the combinations of the creams and the pastry are the stuff of dreams.

MONICA BAKES

The cereal milk tres leches cake is an actual dream. It's a milk cake like no other because the cereal topping is literally like eating the best bowl of cereal you've ever had. It's crunchy and soft and sweet and it invokes 2 situations: either you charf it down in one go, or you have a spoon, put it into the fridge, go away, come back to the fridge, take another spoon and then spend all day scheming how to get the whole thing finished. We speak from experience and wish you all the best of luck - resistance is futile!

ANTONIA

MAMSHA AL SAADIYAT

This is the best tiramisu in town, and we're here for it. Chef Simone and his team do something magical with the layers of mascarpone and savoiardi biscuits doused in good Italian espresso and the result is beyond excellent. Antonia has many must-try dishes but this is at the top of the dessert list.

SANDERSON'S

AL SEEF WALK

This apple pie is the absolute business. The streusel top provides a light crunch while the apple filling is not too sweet - overall, an absolutely delicious dessert. Best of all, you get to choose if you'd like custard or ice-cream to go with it - we know which one we'd prefer!

WEST TO WEST KITCHEN

The sticky toffee pudding from West To West Kitchen is a hug-in-a-bowl. Its texture is deliciously fudgy while the toffee date sauce is liberally poured over it, giving it a sweet and sticky finish. This is the ultimate in comfort food!
