Watch Out, Abu Dhabi: UMBÈ by Antonia Is Delivering the Newest Sandwiches In Town

It’s hard to go past Le Polpette (AED70): Antonia’s meatballs in tomato sauce with pecorino and provolone. Eat this one the second it arrives, and be careful if you’re wearing white - it’s a saucy, meaty extravaganza - but totally worth it. The crisps are handmade, which makes a nice little add-on - and the boxes are really cute as well, with the story behind the brand printed on them!

La Calabrese (AED65) is the winner for a proper Italian focaccia sandwich. Filled with spicy Calabrian salami, potato cream, smoked provola and sauteed chicory, it’s perfect to share between two: a great size for lunch, and it absolutely hits the spot.

Next up? La Mortadella (AED82) - the combination of veal mortadella, stracciatella, artichoke, honey, mustard and pistachio really sounded like a bit of us, and we weren’t wrong - this one was a popular choice, and really stood out from the rest. If you don’t like mustard, maybe give it a miss - it’s not overpowering by any stretch, and it’s really well balanced by the hint of honey and creaminess of the stracciatella, but it’s there!

If you’ve got a weakness for properly good roast meat, give La Porchetta (AED78) a go. It’s a slow-roasted veal porchetta (arricia-style) focaccia sandwich with chicory, potato cream and a bit of mayo - it sounds a bit out there, but it really works. Big fan of the hand cut, house-made crisps - and again, it’s more than enough for lunch with leftovers!
