Chef’s Table Menu at Martabaan | Emirates Palace

Martabaan is one spot we don’t hear enough about in Abu Dhabi. Not only is it tucked away within one of the most iconic hotels in the world with stunning views of the coast, but Martabaan has also brought innovative, modern twists to the traditional Indian kitchen. If you haven’t been yet, don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy their Chef's Table Menu.

Amuse Bouche and Soup: Perfectly bite-sized, the aloo (potato) chaat with a sprinkling of Indian spices and the fresh herb flavours of the mint chutney, was a great way to tease our tastebuds and to honour Indian street food in this high-end menu. The smooth, earthy flavours of the Kaboocha and Coconut soup has us feeling warm and wintery on what was quite a cold night.

Appetizers: The highlight of our meal was probably the stunningly gold leaf wrapped lamb chops. Not only were they a visual treat but also a meat lover’s delight: marinated in a light mix of spices, the focus remained on the tender, juicy cuts of lamb. The Bhatti Prawn and the Murg Malai Tikka were served in a similar design but each with its own unique flavours. The Bhatti Prawn was marinated with chilli but smoothed out with yoghurt and the sweet pineapple reduction, whereas the Murg Malai Tikka was delicate and creamy in flavour.

Entrée: The curry sauce Martabaan ka meat was poured before us, allowing us to appreciate the aromatic flavours that were within this rich, peppery lamb gravy. We were scooping it up with the garlic naan which had butter dripping off – just how we like it! After joking about whether it was canned chicken, we shared a laugh when the Chicken Can Can came out interestingly presented… in a can! Jokes aside, the chicken tikka was absolutely beautiful and we all loved the surprise addition of pickled onions hidden within the masala.

Dessert: With the menu so full of strong flavours, aromas and spices, the Kulfi with pistachio and gold leaves was a sweet way to end the meal without overshadowing the rest of the meal.
