GRILLS AT CHILL'O BRUNCH

Grills @ Chill'O | Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche

Highlights: rabbit chasseur, grilled seafood, BBQ short ribs, chocolate eclairs

Grills@Chill’O is ideally situated, with the most incredible views over the Corniche and to the glistening sea beyond and is the setting for one of the most laid-back brunches in the city. From the location at the poolside with the breeze blowing gently up from the sea to the armchair style seating and the natural light spilling into the dining room from the fully open front side, the entire set-up says ‘take it easy’! Live acoustic music was provided by a talented singer performing a medley of classic and current pop hits, adding to the very relaxed ambiance.

From the moment we arrived we felt well looked after: we were shown where things were and drinks arrived quickly. Drinks available in the house package included beers, house wine and a selection of cocktails. We went for a whisky sour and gin fizz, both of which hit the spot and were enjoyed while admiring the stunning view.

The food is split up into different areas. First port of call was the cold seafood buffet which featured a great sushi selection and oysters which are served with a choice of accompaniments - I kept things simple with a red wine vinaigrette and wow, the oysters were fresh and absolutely delicious. There was a great range of European cheeses and a fresh salad selection available in the same area. Over the other side of the pool was the hot food, centred around the barbecue station which featured meat skewers, seafood and a range of Asian curries, international dishes and a couple of French classics.

We ordered freshly grilled foie gras terrine which came on crisp toast with a berry compote and was devoured in no time. Amongst the international dishes available were butter chicken, grilled hammour, chicken kabsa and our favourite, chicken with cashew, which we enjoyed to share, served with jasmine rice. French dishes included an amazing wild rabbit chasseur and confit duck with orange sauce. It’s not very often that you find rabbit on menus here in the city - this is a particular favourite dish of mine and it was so good, perfectly cooked and flavoured. We also tried the BBQ beef short rib, which combined with half a lobster from the grill station allowed us to satisfy those surf & turf cravings! The seafood available on the BBQ included lobster, prawns, king fish, squid and crab, an incredible selection all cooked to order.

On the other side of the BBQ area was a live carvery station with roasted turkey and baked salmon to help get into the festive mood. It’s worth noting there is a festive edition of this brunch happening on Christmas Day from 12.30-4PM.

Finally, we saved a little room for dessert. At one of the end of the dessert display there was a chocolate fountain with marshmallows and Oreos and various other things for dipping and there were a huge variety of desserts, both classic European cakes and pastries and Arabic treats, quite literally something for everyone! Favourites were the mini eclairs (who doesn’t love an eclair?), and the little lemon pastry tarts, not too sweet but very delicious!
