White must be one of the best all-day dining restaurants in Abu Dhabi so it comes as no surprise that its iftar was equally as outstanding. This is a great iftar to try if you like traditional Ramadan food but love a bit of everything else to go with it.

Starting with the breaking of the fast, there was a little box of dates on each table and four different varieties to choose from in massive chests at the buffet, as well as 3 different soups - the chicken noodle was a change from the norm and was absolutely delicious.

Our favourites were the extensive seafood and mezze section: the beetroot hummous was divine, the salmon with caviar dreamy and the extensive (and very popular!) maki and nigiri superb.

We drooled over the dim sum and bao in the Asian section - which is where you'll find the yummy noodle soup! And the lamb ouzi, fragrant with spices and textured beautifully, holds the spot for #1 ouzi so far!

The grills were good but even better were the truly traditional dishes of lamb harees, a fabulously spiced up oriental rice with chicken and a beautiful tagine . A mutually agreed upon favourite was the made-to-order shawarma: there was no stinting on chicken and the added salad was superb. This was a meal in itself and this is our 'going-back-for-it' dish.

This was a good iftar for vegetarians with a huge vegetable stand and lots of salads, a paneer masala and a tofu dish in the Asian section. The best was the mujadara, a lentil/rice dish with unimaginable depth of flavour.

Desserts, in true White style, didn't disappoint - even if you're not usually a fan of Arabic desserts, try some (the baklawa especially was top and the little fluted filo thingies whose name I don't know but I was pleased to get acquainted with!) were a bit messy to handle but just so, so good. There was a queue at the ice-cream counter - toppings optional

and we loved the little caramel chouquettes. The Umm Ali was on point and that's pretty much a dessert station win from me!

It wasn't just the food that made this lovely: the Arabic touches everywhere from the huge chests piled high with dates, to the big blue patterned platters and the little dishes with mosaic designs made it really feel like a Ramadan iftar, as opposed to just another buffet.

White is an iftar I highly recommend. Great options, well done, good, happy service and a superb ambiance.
