The food: What a delight! Start with a selection of three dishes - crispy calamari, wagyu beef tartare and sea bass carpaccio with a citrus and passionfruit dressing, and we’re off with a bang. The calamari has a perfect spice mix and very light batter, while the citrus and sea bass combination is very fresh to the palate. 

There’s nothing better than a perfectly cooked risotto, yet I'm often hesitant to order it as it is frequently undercooked OR overcooked! Hats off to the chef, as the mushroom risotto is really a stand out - light in texture while still being rich in flavour, the tomato confit gives a little contrast that really suits the dish. If there wasn't so much more to come, we'd be tempted to ask for seconds.

Mains are a choice of either steak frites or sea bream fillet, and happily for us, sharing is caring! The tasty flank steak is tender and cooked perfectly to your liking, complimented by a rich bearnaise sauce. The sea bream’s vierge sauce adds a lovely mild kick to this oven-baked dish. 

The desserts: At this point, we’d usually start the ‘will we, won’t we’ dessert dance - such a relief that the decision is made for us! Crème brulee and chocolate fondant are the yin and yang of the dessert world that we need to finish off this joyful culinary journey. We’re on cloud nine from the heady scent of chocolate as the plate is set down, a jazzy cover of ‘Sunday Morning’ drifting over from the pianist. The rich decadence of the fondant is balanced by alternating bites of a light and delicate brulée, and yes - there is a satisfying crack when that spoon hits the caramelised, crackly caramel top! 

The other bits: From the moment you walk in, the staff will make you feel right at home. Helpful, fun and friendly, they circulate easily between tables, offering recommendations on drinks and a really solid knowledge of the food without being over the top.

The terrace is just begging mother nature to let us at it - evenings outside listening to the soft lilt of jazz are almost within grasp, and will quickly become some of the most coveted seats in town if you ask us!
