DO: VIEW A 50,000-YEAR-OLD COMET
Stargazers will want to be prepping their telescopes ready for this Saturday (February 4th), as Comet C/2022 E3 (catchy name, right?!) will be zooming past the earth and it will be visible from the UAE. This ancient comet has apparently not been seen for the last 50,000 years, will be the closest to the sun since the first ice age and is being described by astronomers as a ‘once-in-a-lifetime experience’.
Although it should be visible to the naked eye, if you want to make it a special event you can join the Dubai Astronomy Club in the Al Qudra desert, for a special comet-spotting excursion. Including special talks on how best to observe the comet, a sky mapping session, photography tips, and of course watching the comet herself through super powerful telescopes, the experience costs AED120 for adults and AED100 for kids, with added transport for AED50 pp.
Location: Al Qudra Desert
Date: Saturday, 4th January 2023
Time: 6:30PM – 9:30PM
Price: Adults AED120 | Kids AED100
